Our Challenge

iLOR, L.L.C. is a research and development company founded in 2000. They developed a plan for PreFound, a new search engine that ranks results based on user opinions instead of computer algorithms.

The iLOR team had developed a concept for the way the search engine would function, general design concepts, and several web pages developed in HTML to illustrate the overall structure and appearance of the website. They had also begun the development of a desktop tool which would allow users to organize and upload their files into the system. The challenge presented to DBS>Interactive was to develop the search engine's functionality, and to integrate this functionality with design developed by iLOR, as well as integration of the data delivered by the desktop application which was still in development.

DBS>Interactive analyzed the needs and expectations for this new technology, and created a development plan which would meet these needs while also allowing for expansion to integrate other user-based functions as the popularity of this search engine grew. This plan recommended that the site be developed in PHP to allow initial funding to be focused on the implantation and expansion of functionality by eliminating the license fees associated with other development platforms.

A series of robust databases were developed and customized to allow for the import of data from multiple sources (including the desktop application in development) while also organizing the information in a manner that would allow for optimal speed in searches of the databases which contained millions of records. Additional custom programming was developed to provide other important site functions, including the ability for a moderator to approve or edit all submissions for publication to the site, the import of results from other tagging sites, the creation of user profiles, ratings of other users finds, organization of both personal and public search results, and the creation of lists personal favorite sites and users

Currently still in a beta version, the PreFound search engine has received excellent reviews from focus groups. Additional features, including chat and an expanded user email messaging system are currently in development. Because the site was built in a modular development structure, the addition of these and other planned new features can be easily integrated into the system without altering the effectiveness of the current core features or requiring the restructuring of any of the existing functionality.

DBS>Interactive has a business-driven approach separating us from other web design companies. We realize that a website is a critical business tool, and no matter how good it looks there is not a one size fits all solution.
